Railsplitter Cross Country Does Well At University of Evansville Invitational
October 18, 2008
EVANSVILLE, IN - While the Lincoln Memorial University men's cross country team didn't win the recent University of Evansville Invitational, nor did one it's team members finish with top honors, the LMU men did have several individual best performances and finished 4th as a team among the non NCAA Division I teams participating in the race. The weekend's effort has given the squad a great deal of confidence as it prepares for this weekend's South Atlantic Conference Championship in Newberry, South Carolina.
"The competition we faced put us in one of the most competitive races taking place on over the weekend," said LMU Head Coach Jeremy Donahue. "Mark Paulson's (Neenah, WI) time of 26:10.94 was good enough for 58th place overall and 17th among non Division II participants, ranking him as one of the top five fastest LMU runners of all-time for an 8k race. Derrick Lindsay (Talbott, TN) (27:05.74 - 110th), Josh Armentrout (Jonesborough, TN) (27:45.32 - 143rd), Andras Pauko (Budapest, Hungary) (29:43.16 - 204th) and Jimmy Beveridge (New Tazewell, TN) (36:55.71 - 238th) all ran their fastest times of the season in this weekend's race. Sophomore Jemal Talore (Clarkston, GA) narrowly missed his best time of the season by finishing one second behind his Alabama-Huntsville Invitational performance, running the race in 28:11.50 to finish 159th.
This weekend the Railsplitter and Lady Railsplitter cross country teams will be competing against the best in the South Atlantic Conference has to offer when they travel to Newberry, South Carolina for the SAC Cross Country Championship. Saturday's race is a prelude to the NCAA regional race later this month and will get underway at 9:30 a.m. Newberry College is hosting this year's SAC Cross Country Championship.
