Railsplitters Run Fourth At SAC Championship

CHAPIN, SC - On Saturday morning, the Lincoln Memorial University men's cross country team competed in the South Atlantic Conference Championship held at Crooked Creek Park in Chapin, South Carolina and finished fourth among the field of eight teams participating.
The Railsplitters finished behind 2008 Champion Mars Hill College, second place went to Wingate University and finishing third was Lenoir-Rhyne University. Lincoln Memorial University, Tusculum College, Carson-Newman College, Newberry College and Brevard College rounded out the way the eight teams finished in this year's race.
LMU freshman Derrick Lindsay (Talbott, TN) paced the Railsplitters, finishing the race in 13th place overall in a time of 27:47, while senior Mark Paulson (Neenah, WI) was 17th by crossing the finish line in 28:11. LMU's Jemal Talore (Clarkston, GA) and Josh Armentrout (Jonesborough, TN) finished the 8K race in 29th and 30th place respectively. Talore ran a time of 29:04, while Armentrout closed out the race in 29:07. Railsplitter dual-sport athlete Andras Pauko (Budapest, Hungary) crossed the finish line in 30:31 to place 42nd, while Jimmy Beveridge (New Tazewell, TN) placed 58th in 33:02.
The LMU women did not compete as a team due to the number of runners. Freshman Sofia Lopez Mimendi (Mexico City, Mexico) (far right in the photo) finished 20th with a time of 21:02 and was named to the All-Freshman team. Fellow freshman Fiona Reinecke (Knoxville, TN) ran a time of 23:13 to finish in 40th place.
Saturday's action ends the regular season and conference schedule for the Railsplitters and Lady Railsplitters. There is no word yet as to whether the Lincoln Memorial University men will qualify for the upcoming NCAA Regional in early November.
