HARROGATE, TN - Although this Saturday night most folks will be in the Tex Turner Arena in support of the LMU blue and gray when the Railsplitter and Lady Railsplitter baskeball teams take on Carson-Newman College, the Lincoln Memorial University athletics department is asking everyone to think pink and join the "Pink Zone" in support of the fight against breast cancer.

Several years ago, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) started the "think pink" campaign for the fight against the deadly disease.  A big supporter of the organization's cause since it's beginning was former North Carolina State University Head Women's Basketball Coach Kay Yow.  Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and recently lost her 22 year battle with the disease on January 24 when she passed away at the age of 66.  Yow's death has only increased the organization's drive to rid the world of the affliction.  This Saturday LMU will join colleges and universities throughout the country in a battle that is only beginning.  "Nearly all of us know or have known someone who has been affected by this disease," said LMU Sports Information Director Rusty Peace.  "Our athletics teams at LMU are very in touch with issues in today's world and this campaign is one all of our teams, especially the women's athletic programs take very seriously."

On Saturday night, the LMU athletics department has teamed up with game-sponsor Commercial Bank to sell "think pink" t-shirts to raise money for the fight against breast cancer.  Members of the University's Student Athlete Advisory Committee will be selling the shirts at the door and through the crowd until they are gone.  The University has a limited supply of the shirts and all proceeds from the sales along with any donations throughout the evening will be combined with money raised by other NCAA schools throughout the country to support breat cancer research.  "The University is proud to team up with the South Atlantic Conference and the NCAA is support of this cause," says LMU Athletics Director, Roger Vannoy.

"Think Pink" t-shirts have already gone on sale and are $10.00.  To purchase the shirts before Saturday evening, contact the Lincoln Memorial University athletics department at (423) 869-6285, or stop by the LMU athletics office located on the bottom concourse of the Tex Turner Arena.
