Rain & Thunderstorms Throughout The Tri-State Area Force Railsplitters & Bulldogs To Push Conference Series Back
HARROGATE, TN - Nasty weather conditions throughtout the tri-state are have once again forced the Railsplitter baseball team to postpone a conference series from its originally scheduled play date. Inclement weather has been a monumental imposition to Lincoln Memorial University Head Baseball Coach Jeff Sziksai and his Railsplitters this season in terms of South Atlantic Conference play.
On several occasions this season, the Railsplitters have been forced to postpone and even cancel games with conference opponents, thus limiting LMU's opportunities to secure needed league wins in what is possibly one of the tightest regular season conference races in recent memory.
On Friday evening, the Railsplitters and the Bulldogs of Wingate University were scheduled to begin a three-game South Atlantic Conference series that could hold key to how and if both teams will earn spots as one of the six teams in the upcoming SAC Baseball Tournament. Now, with rain and thunderstorms forecast all day Friday, that series has been pushed back to a double header on Saturday that will get underway at 1:00 p.m. and a single nine inning game on Easter Sunday that is set to begin at 1:00 o'clock.
The Railsplitters will enter this weekend's series with Wingate as the league's no. 7 team with a 6-10 conference mark, one game out of position to earn one of the top-6 spots in this years tournament. Wingate currently occupies the league's no. 6 position with a league record of 7-9 and will be looking to build the one-game cushion they currently hold over the Railsplitters in the regular season race.
LMU's series with Wintgate is the Railsplitter's final home conference series of the year and will be looked at as senior weekend on the LMU campus. When the Railsplitters take the field this weekend they will be saying goodbye to seniors Tommy Casto, Bryon Izzo, Mitch Kramer, Jason Pabon, Ralph Rosas and Lee Philson. Saturday's action is set for a nine and a seven inning game, while Sunday's final game of the series is set for nine innings of play.
