Baseball Inks Transfer

HARROGATE, TN - Head Lincoln Memorial University Baseball Coach Jeff Sziksai announced today the signing of Justin Ferrell.  A transfer from NCAA Division III Lynchburg College, Ferrell will join the Railsplitter staff after two seasons with the Hornets.  Last season he Ferrell posted a 2.92 ERA in nine appearances while loggin 12 strikeouts and allowing opponents a minimal batting of .278.   Ferrell has played for the Martinsville Mustangs in the Coastal Plains League this summer.

A 6'6" product of Lynchburg College and native of Red Oak, Virginia, Ferrell's awards and honors include being named all-region during his junior and senior year's of high schoool and was also an all-state selection in basketball his senior year.  Ferrell was recently invited to play in the Coastal Plain League.  Academically he was a Dean’s List honoree in 2008 and 2009.  “I felt like it was the best fit for me to further advance with my baseball career,” said Ferrell of signing with LMU.  “Justin is a physical kid with a durable body and a strong arm," stated Railsplitter Head Coach Jeff Sziksai.  "He has the ability to get better, and I believe he will thrive in our system.  We are looking forward to Justin joining our program this fall.”

Last spring the Railsplitters finished the 2009 spring schedule with a 32-18 record and lost six seniors to graduation.  Ferrell will report to campus for fall semester classes and to meet his new teammates in late August.
