Railsplitters Finish 3rd At Tusculum Fall Classic

HARROGATE, TN - The Lincoln Memorial University men's golf team made another strong showing at the Tusculum Fall Classic held at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tennessee on Monday and Tuesday. 

The Railsplitters finished third among the 12 teams participating in the event and finished only six strokes behind host and this year's champion Tusculum College.  The Pioneers took the tournament with a team score of 576, eight strokes over par for the course to win this year's title. 

South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba College took second place.  The Indians finished four strokes behind the Pioneers with a team score of 580, narrowly edging the Railsplitters who turned a two-day total 582 for the event.

Conference opponents Newberry College (583), Wingate University (594) and Lenoir-Rhyne University (603) finished in fourth, fifth and sixth place repectively, while North Greenville University placed seventh with a teams total 605, Limestone College was eighth with 606, SAC opponent Brevard College came in ninth with a final 607, Walters State Community College was tenth with a 613, Spartanburg Methodist Community College was eleventh with 620 and league foe Mars Hill College finished in last place with a score of 623.

The LMU effort was led by sophomore Eric Kennedy (Powell, TN) who tied for third.  Kennedy shot rounds of 73 and 69 for a two-day total 142 which was even par and only two strokes off the leader. 

Railsplitter newcomer Jamie Chapman (Sussex, England) also finished inside the top-10, tying for seventh place by turning in rounds of 73 and 71 for 144 which was two strokes over par for the course.  LMU's Dusty Louth (Washago, Ontario, Canada) and Cory Talley (Newport, TN) each shot a 147 to tie for sixteenth place overall.  Louth had rounds of 75 and 72 while Talley turned in scores of 73 and 74 for the event. 

LMU's Joshua Cornett (Mountain City, TN) narrowly missed finishing inside the top-20 participants.  Cornett had rounds of 73 and 79 for a final two-day total 149 to tie for twenty-second place only seven strokes over par, while teammate Cory Bartlett tied for thirty-sixth place overall with a pair of 76's to turn in a final 152 which was 10 strokes over par.

The Railsplitters will now use the remainder of the week to prepare for the King College Tornado Invitational to be played October 5-6 in Bristol, Tennessee.  The event will be one of three remaining matches on the fall schedule which will conclude with the LMU Fall Invitational October 19-20 at Woodlake Golf Course in Tazewell, Tennessee.
