Lopez Mimendi & Reinecke Earn All-Conference Honors
October 25, 2009
HICKORY, NC - Lincoln Memorial University cross country runners Sofia Lopez Mimendi (Mexico City, Mexico) and Fiona Reinecke (Knoxville, TN) have been named to the All-South Atlantic Conference First and Second Teams for their efforts throughout the 2009 fall season.
Lopez Mimendi, a sophomore and two-year letter-winner has been the Lady Railsplitters top runner throughout the year and finished second in the recent Food Lion SAC Cross Country Championships held at Southside Park in Newton, North Carolina on Saturday. Lopez Mimendi ran the 5K race in 20:15.37 to place second overall, eaning All-SAC First Team honors while Reinecke came in thirteenth in 21:34.42 and earned All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team status.
As a team the Lady Railsplitters placed fourth among the nine South Atlantic Conference teams participating in the one-day event. That alone is quite an accomplishment considering the Lady Railsplitters only had Lopez Mimendi and Reinecke last season and couldn't run as a squad.
Although the Lady Railsplitters probably won't qualify for the NCAA Regional race as a team, there is an outside chance that Lopez-Mimendi and Reinecke could run as individuals. Word on whether or not that will happen should come this week.
