Lady Railsplitters Fall In Close Battle With Fort Valley State
MELBOURNE, FL - Playing in the first of two remaining games before the Christmas holiday, the Lincoln Memorial University women's basketball team dropped a close 67-64 decision Friday evening with Fort Valley State University in the first game of the Florida Tech Holiday Tournament.
LMU led through much of the first half only to see a seven point lead deminish to a 34 all time at the end of the first twenty minutes of play. With the beginning of the second half, the Lady Railsplitters pulled out to as much as a five point lead with 16:18 to play before FVSU came back and tied the game at 44 with 10:36 to go.
After trading the lead over the next few minutes, Fort Valley State University took the lead for good with 7:50 on the clock and held off the Lady Railsplitters down the stretch to come away with the 67-64 win.
LMU, sophomore guard Amberley O'Dell (Argos, IN) finished the night as the team's leading scorer with 20 points, while junior center Blandine Kikwiki Mamuku (Kinshasa DR, Congo) turned in a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore point-guard Dayshalee Salaman (Carolina, Puerto Rico) also chipped in 13 points as the Lady Railsplitters fell to 2-5 on the year with the loss.
The LMU women will play host team Florida Tech Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the final game of the classic. The game will also be the Lady Railsplitters final outing until after Christmas when they travel to Milledgeville, Georgia for the Georgia College & State University Tournament on December 29-30.
