Railsplitters Take Opening Two Games Of The Series With Brevard
Brevard, N.C. - The Lincoln Memorial University baseaball team too two games Saturday afternoon from Brevard College, winning in the first game 13-4 and again in the second game, 6-4 to improve to 11-8 overall and 5-3 in South Atlantic Conference play.
The victories come only days after the Railsplitters were swept in a double-header by non-conference opponent Bellarmine University at home on the Lamar Hennon Field 11-9 and 9-5.
Saturday's first win went to LMU pitcher Steven Starbird who improves to 3-1 on the season. Starbird pitched 8.2 innings allowing seven hits, four runs and four earned runs with four walks and 13 strikeouts.
Game-two of the afternoon went to the Railsplitter's Brandon Cowan who improves to 2-2 with the win. Cowan pitched the first 4.2 innings on the hill, allowing six hits, three runs and three earned runs with five walks and five strikeouts.
On Sunday afternoon, the Railsplitters will play the final game of the series against the Tornados and will be looking for their second series sweep in the past three season against Brevard. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
