Railsplitters Sweep Brevard To Move To 6-3 In SAC Play

BREVARD, NC - The Lincoln Memorial University baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Brevard College on Sunday afternoon by winning the third game of the three-game conference series 27-13 to move to 6-3 in the South Atlantic race.

On Saturday afternoon the Railsplitters rolled up 13-4 and 6-4 wins in the first two games of the series to push things in to Sunday's final game.

LMU's Shane Kaufman and John Couch were both 4-for-6 at the plate on Sunday and responsible for getting seven of LMU's runs across the plate. Teammate Nick Langley was three 3-for-5 and had four RBI while Chase Quarles was 2-for-5 with four runs batted in and Ben Adleburg 3-for-4 with two RBI. Gelson Perez Eric Kitts and Garrett Copleland combined for the Railsplitter's other six RBI.

Austin Johnson picked up the win in game three to improve his personal record to 1-1 on the year. Johnson pitched the first four innings allowing nine hits, seven runs and seven earned runs with three walks and three strikeouts.

Now 12-8 overall and 6-3 in league play, the Railsplitters host Virginia Intermont and Northern Kentucky this week before traveling to Indiana next weekend to take on Oakland City University. Tuesday's game with Virginia Intermont is set for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
