HARROGATE, Tenn. -- As the end of the year approaches, the Lincoln Memorial University athletics department is counting down the top 20 moments of 2015. The men's track and field team checks in at No. 14 with a standout performance in a premier event.
Â
The 2015 South Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championship was hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University April 17-18 in Hickory, N.C., where the Railsplitters made their inaugural appearance.
Â
Featuring a skeleton program focusing mostly on long to mid-distance running events in its first year of existence, the LMU men's track and field team collected 41 points to take seventh-place in the SAC Championship.
Â
Almost a fifth of those points were earned by the Railsplitters' 4x400 relay team of
Olawatosin Balogun (Grayson, Ga.),
Michael Braxton,
Jevon Joseph (Port-O-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) and
Jon Slaven (Harrogate, Tenn.), as that group tallied eight points with a runner-up finish in that event. That quartet combined to run the 4x400 relay in 3:17.34, falling just .32 seconds shy of race winner Wingate.
Â
No other team in that particular event finished less than a second slower than Lincoln Memorial, as Queens took third place at 3:19.10.
Â
The top 20 moments of 2015 countdown continues on Thursday with moment No. 13, where the volleyball team will make its first appearance.
