BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The LMU beach volleyball team went 1-1 in the opening day of the UAB Beach Blazer Duals, losing to New Mexico and sweeping Tennessee-Martin.

Against New Mexico, the Lobos picked up the 5-0 victory but the No. 2 and No. 4 flights went to three sets. At No. 2, Jamie Jehne (Hollywood, Fla.) and Peyton McDaniel (Morristown, Tenn.) fell 21-9 in the first set, won the second set 21-17 and lost 15-6 in the third set. At No. 4, Kiera Holland (Columbia, S.C.) and Lindsay Nartker (New Carlisle, Ohio) were narrowly defeated 21-17, 14-21, 16-14.

In the second match of the day, LMU had little trouble with the Skyhawks as they cruised to the 5-0 win. At No. 1, Samantha Cash (New Carlisle, Ohio) and Danielle Ged (Smyrna, Tenn.) picked up the 21-10, 21-18 victory while at No. 2 Jehne and McDaniel had their second three-set match of the day, winning 21-14, 15-21, 15-10. At No. 3 Holland and Fleeman coasted to the 21-7, 21-10 victory and at No. 4 Kaylee Stone (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Kayla Kidney (Chandler, Ariz.) had a hard-fought 21-19, 21-17 win. The No. 5 flight was forfeited to LMU.

LMU will face Tennessee-Martin and UAB to close out the tournament.
