Junior shooting guard Gerel Simmons (Accokeek, Md.) has been named Railsplitter of the Week after turning in the best performance of his short tenure in the Blue and Gray. Simmons scored a season high 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting with six three-pointers to lead the fourth-ranked Railsplitters to an 81-62 victory over the Wingate Bulldogs in Wingate, N.C. on Saturday afternoon (1/10).

The Brevard transfer fell just five points shy of matching his career high, as he posted 31 points against Lees-McRae during the 2012-13 campaign while playing for the Tornados. The six three-pointers are a new career high for the Accokeek, Md. native.

Simmons ranks third for the Railsplitters with 9.7 points per game. He has registered double figures in seven of his 14 appearances.
