Sophomore netminder Joe Medel (Virginia Beach, Va.) took the loss in the Railsplitters' only appearance this past week, but the University of New England transfer was magnificent in defeat.
Â
Medel reset his career-high with 17 saves in an 11-7 loss at Catawba on Saturday, surpassing his 15-save effort from the season opener at Emmanuel on February 7. Medel faced a season-high 49 shots, higher than the number of shots he faced in the past two games combined (44).
Â
Medel currently leads the South Atlantic Conference with a 9.11 goals against average and a 55.7 save percentage. Among qualified goalkeepers, only Mars Hill's Jack Grinewich has allowed fewer goals. Grinewich has surrendered 44 goals in 240 minutes, while Medel has relinquished just 51 in 335 minutes in net.
