Junior right-hander Samantha Smith (Knoxville, Tenn.) helped lead the Lady Railsplitters to an unblemished 6-0 mark last week, picking up three wins and a save.
Â
Smith kicked off her week by tossing six innings with seven hits, three runs and two strikeouts in a 7-4 win at King on Wednesday. After that start, the Knoxville, Tenn. native only surrendered one earned run over the next 16 innings. She tossed a three-hitter in a 4-1 win in game one at Catawba on Saturday, allowing the Indians' only run in the bottom of the seventh while adding a pair of strikeouts. In game two of that twinbill, she relieved Brianna Taylor (Ooltewah, Tenn.) and spun two scoreless innings of one-hit ball to earn the save.
Â
On Sunday, Smith chucked a two-hit shutout and retired the last 12 batters she faced to lead the Lady Railsplitters to a 2-0 win over Brevard. She made the start in game two of that series and did not allow a run in two innings of work.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters have won eight straight games, and Smith's resurgence is a big part of that. Since allowing a run and three hits in 2/3 of an inning at Carson-Newman on April 1, Smith is 4-0 with a save. She has relinquished just seven earned runs over her 33 innings during that span.
