Sophomore forward
Victor Peres (Brasilia, Brazil) netted back-to-back game-winning goals and has been recognized as the Holiday Tire Railsplitter of the Week recipient for the week of October 18 for his efforts, it was announced on Tuesday. Peres is the second consecutive member of the men's soccer team to receive the award, following in the footsteps of last week's winner
George Burne (Carlisle, England).
Â
Peres – a 6-0 striker from Brasilia, Brazil – helped the Railsplitters (8-4, 4-3 SAC) defeat both Newberry and Coker and push their winning streak to three with his third and fourth goals of the season.
Â
Against Newberry last Monday, Peres converted a penalty kick in the 94th minute to give Lincoln Memorial a 2-1 overtime victory at the Smith Road Complex. The Railsplitters outshot the Wolves 24-10 in that contest, with Peres registering five shots and two shots on goal.
Â
In Saturday's match against Coker, Peres tallied what proved to be the game-winning score in unassisted fashion in the 25th minute. That gave the Railsplitters a 2-0 lead in an eventual 2-1 win over the Cobras. Peres led all players in that match with five shots and two shots on goal.
Â
Peres has accounted for four goals and four assists this season while registering a point in three consecutive matches dating back to LMU's 6-1 beatdown of Lees-McRae on October 5. He has far exceeded his output from the 2015 campaign, when he scored two goals in just nine appearances as freshman.
Â
The Railsplitters are back in action on Wednesday, October 19 when they pay the Mars Hill Lions a visit for a 7:30 p.m. South Atlantic Conference clash.
