HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Redshirt-sophomore right side hitter
Samantha Cash (New Carlisle, Ohio) helped the Lincoln Memorial University women's volleyball team move into first place in the South Atlantic Conference standings with three monster performances this past week and has been selected as the Holiday Tire Railsplitter of the Week for November 1, it was announced on Tuesday.
Cash receives the Holiday Tire Railsplitter of the Week award for the second time this season and the first since October 4. Through nine weeks, the LMU women's volleyball program has accounted for five Railsplitter of the Week plaudits.
The Lady Railsplitters (21-4, 15-2 SAC) went 3-0 last week, which included a monumental five-set win over the 10-time defending SAC champion Wingate Bulldogs, and Cash powered the offense by collecting at least eight kills in all three matches while hitting above .300 in each of those appearances.
Cash opened the week by compiling eight kills on 14 attempts for a .571 clip in a 3-0 win at Mars Hill on Tuesday night. The New Carlisle, Ohio native also added four assists and two digs.
On Friday night at Mary Mars Gym, Cash led the Lady Railsplitters to a 3-2 win over Wingate with a team-high 12 kills on a .303 attack percentage to go along with 11 digs, three aces and two assists. Behind Cash, Lincoln Memorial ended a 21-game losing streak against the Bulldogs and defeated Wingate for the first time in program history. Her serve played a key role in the second set, as the Lady Railsplitters ran off a 10 consecutive points with Cash at the service line before ultimately evening the match at 1-1.
Cash wrapped up her week with another error-free performance against Coker, tallying 11 kills on a .579 clip with four assists and two digs. That marked her fifth match of the season with at least eight kills and no errors.
In her first season for the Lady Railsplitters, Cash has been one of the most productive players in the South Atlantic Conference, ranking third in the league in attack percentage (.315), 11th in kills per set (2.79) and eighth in total kills (262). Against SAC opponents, Cash has been even better with 3.00 kills per set on a league-leading .341 attack percentage.
Cash and the Lady Railsplitters are back in action on Tuesday night when they begin a three-game road trip at Tusculum. That contest gets underway at 7 p.m. in Greeneville, Tenn.
