Samantha Cash (New Carlisle, Ohio) has been tabbed as the Holiday Tire Railsplitter of the Week award recipient for the week of October 4, it was announced on Tuesday. Cash is the fourth different member of the women's volleyball team to receive Railsplitter of the Week distinctions for the 2016-17 seasons.
Cash helped the Lady Railsplitters (11-2, 8-1 SAC) grab control of second place in the South Atlantic Conference standings this past week with a four-set win over Catawba and a straight-sets sweep over Queens at Mary Mars Gymnasium.
The New Carlisle, Ohio native and Tennessee Tech transfer matched a career-high mark with 18 kills on just 37 attempts - good for a .459 attack percentage - in the win over Catawba on Friday night. Cash also added four assists, two aces, three digs and a block assist as the Lady Railsplitters defeated the Indians for the 10th time in the last 11 tries.
On Saturday afternoon, Cash notched eight kills, five assists, six digs and two block assists as the Lady Railsplitters cruised through the Queens Royals in a battle of one-loss SAC squads.
Cash is averaging 2.74 kills per set on a .296 attack percentage this season, ranking ninth and fifth in the SAC in those respective categories. In addition to that, she is contributing 2.11 digs, 1.06 assists and 0.55 blocks per set. All told, Cash has piled up 100 kills in SAC play, ranking sixth in the league in that department.
The Lady Railsplitters will be back in action on Friday, October 7 when they trek to Hickory, N.C. to face the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in SAC action at 7 p.m.
