Junior shooting guard Shea Coker (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been selected as the Holiday Tire Railsplitter of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
Coker, who receives the weekly award for the second time this season and first since December 6, led the No. 10 nationally-ranked Lady Railsplitters (13-0) to wins over Mars Hill and Queens to help extend the best start in the history of the Lincoln Memorial University women's basketball program.
Last Wednesday, Coker scored 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting and a 4-of-6 mark from three-point range in a 95-51 win over the Mars Hill Lions inside of Tex Turner Arena. The Knoxville, Tenn. native reached that mark in just 14 minutes of playing time while adding a pair of assists.
Coker was even better in Monday night's 70-60 win at Queens, scoring 24 points – one shy of her career-high – on a near-perfect 8-for-10 effort from the field. She went 4-of-5 from three and 4-of-4 at the charity stripe while grabbing a season-high six rebounds in 28 minutes of work.
Through 13 appearances this season, Coker is averaging 14.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game on 54.1 percent shooting and a ridiculous 55.8 percent mark from three. She is ranked second in the SAC in three-point percentage, third in field-goal percentage and sixth in three-pointers made, while her 14.4 points per game are the seventh-most in the league. Coker has tallied double figures nine times this season, including six of her last seven.
The Lady Railsplitters are back in action on Wednesday night as they travel to Anderson, S.C. for a pivotal SAC showdown against the Anderson Trojans, who are 7-1 in league play and 10-2 overall this season.
