ANDERSON, S.C. -- Fueled by another stellar outing from
Danilo da Silva (Campinas, Brazil), the Railsplitters (9-3-1, 6-3-1 SAC) scored two goals less than two minutes apart late in the first half to pace a 2-1 triumph over the Anderson Trojans (7-7-1, 6-4 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action on Saturday in Anderson, S.C.
Â
Lincoln Memorial fell behind early as the Trojans were awarded a penalty kick at the 6:34 mark following a handball in the box, which was the direct result of Brad Du Plooy's shot on goal just seven seconds beforehand. Anderson's Lars Kaula converted the PK attempt for his sixth goal of the season to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
Â
From the 9:27 mark to 14:32, the Railsplitters registered six shot attempts, including a header by
Lucas Coro (Ribeirao Preto, Brazil) that hit the post, but it wasn't until the 36th minute that they drew the match back even at 1-1.
Â
Da Silva had a hand in both the equalizer and the eventual game-winner, as he stole the ball from an Anderson defender and blasted a one-timer over Devon Ashy from 25 yards out at the 35:05 mark to tally his third goal of the season. Just a minute and 52 seconds later, da Silva made a long run up the left sideline and crossed the ball into the box for
Philip Wong (Hong Kong, China), who put his third goal of the season inside the far post to give the Railsplitters a 2-1 lead.
Â
The Railsplitters then limited the Trojans to just two shot attempts in the second half. Lincoln Memorial goalkeeper
Pedro Ozi (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was called into action on only one of those looks, turning away Du Plooy's shot in the 70th minute. Ozi finished with four saves in the match and relinquished just the penalty-kick goal to improve to 9-3-1 on the season.
Â
Lincoln Memorial outshot the Trojans 15-7, but Anderson had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Da Silva - who finished with a goal and an assist - led all players with five shots.
Henrique Rezek (Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil) posted three shots, while
George Burne (Carlisle, England) and Coro had two shots apiece.
Â
Anderson won the corner kick battle 8-3. Nick Bryant and Du Plooy led the Trojans with two shot attempts apiece. Ashy made one save and conceded two goals to stumble to 7-7-1 for the year.
Â
The Railsplitters wrap up the regular-season schedule on Saturday, October 31 when they welcome the Catawba Indians to the LMU Soccer Complex for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. Lincoln Memorial will also celebrate Senior Day.
