Top 20 moments of 2015 - No. 17: Elliott Shines in SAC Track and Field Championship

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- As the end of the year approaches, the Lincoln Memorial University athletics department is counting down the top 20 moments of 2015. At No. 17, we spotlight Whitney Elliott's (LaFollette, Tenn.) outstanding performance in the Lady Railsplitters' inaugural South Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championship.

Lincoln Memorial started its outdoor track and field programs in 2015, competing mostly in long to mid-distance running events while working towards building a fuller roster for the future. Expectations were muted for the Lady Railsplitters' first SAC Championship experience, but Elliott made sure that Lincoln Memorial's name wasn't left unnoticed.

Elliott notched top-5 placements in three different events in the league championship, which was hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C. from April 17-18.

The LaFollette, Tenn. native won her preliminary round in the 1500 meter race and eventually finished in third place in the finals of that event. Elliott added another third-place run in the 5000 meter race before capping her SAC Championship showing by notching a fifth-place finish in one of the most grueling races in outdoor track and field: the 3000 meter steeplechase.

Despite competing in a limited number of events, the Lady Railsplitters finished in seventh place overall and beat out both Coker and Brevard.

The top 20 moments of 2015 countdown continues on Monday with moment No. 16.
