WINGATE, N.C. -- The 10th-ranked Wingate Bulldogs scored in the third minute and made that stand up in a 1-0 shutout victory over the Railsplitters in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon in Wingate, N.C.
Â
Lincoln Memorial's (5-4, 2-3 SAC) tendency to relinquish early goals reared its head once again against Wingate (7-0, 5-0 SAC), who took the lead before fans could even settle into their seats to remain undefeated and power their fifth win over the Railsplitters in the last six meetings. The loss also marks Lincoln Memorial's third in its last four appearances on the pitch.
Â
Wingate forward Callum Ross accounted for the lone goal of the match, knocking in his fifth goal of the 2016 campaign off of a free kick at the 2:02 mark.
Â
All told, Lincoln Memorial and Wingate combined for just 11 shots in the match. The Railsplitters produced six shots with two shots on goal, but Wingate keeper Pablo Jara saved both of the Railsplitters' shots on goal to post his SAC-leading fourth shutout of the season.
Â
Sophomore
Victor Peres (Brasilia, Brazil) led LMU with four shots and two shots on goal, while
Danilo da Silva (Campinas, Brazil) and
