HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Railsplitter of the Week award will return for the 2016-17 seasons and Holiday Tire will serve as the title sponsor, it was announced by the Lincoln Memorial University athletics department on Monday.
"We are excited to announce Holiday Tire as the title sponsor for our Railsplitter of the Week program," LMU Athletic Director
Matt Green said. "Personally, the Railsplitter of the Week is one of my favorite initiatives because it allows us to recognize our student-athletes on a job well done while also showing gratitude for the way they represent LMU. We appreciate Holiday Tire for partnering with us in this pursuit and demonstrating their commitment to LMU Athletics."
After a one-year hiatus, the Railsplitter of the Week award is back. As the name suggests, the weekly-plaudit will be given to the male or female student-athlete that turned in the most outstanding performance of the past week (Monday through Sunday). The Railsplitter of the Week winner will decided by a small committee of administrators and announced every Tuesday morning.
"It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the return of the Railsplitter of the Week award and our partnership with Holiday Tire for this initiative," said LMU Director of Sports Communications
Scott Erland. "It's important for us to tell our student-athletes' stories and to give the proper weight to their achievements. With the revival of this award and Holiday Tire's tremendous support, we will be able to do just that."
The Railsplitter of the Week award was last implemented during the 2013-14 seasons. That year, the men's basketball program led the way, claiming 10 of the 33 Railsplitter of the Week honors up for grabs. The baseball and women's basketball teams tied for second that year with four recipients apiece.
The first Railsplitter of the Week award is slated to be released on Tuesday, September 6, as LMU sports commence the weekend prior with the start of the men's soccer, women's soccer, women's volleyball, and men's and women's cross country seasons.
