HARROGATE, Tenn. – An 88
th-minute goal from Stian Sanner gave Mars Hill the lead, and the Lions (5-5-2, 4-2-2 SAC) stunned Lincoln Memorial (7-3-3, 2-3-3 SAC) with a 1-0 victory Wednesday evening at the LMU Soccer Complex.
The loss snapped a nine-game home undefeated streak for the Railsplitters.
Caio Bergamo saved Sanner's original shot attempt, but the ball deflected right back to Sanner. The senior beat Bergamo the second time for his third goal of the year.
LMU controlled the offensive tempo most of the match and outshot the Lions in both halves and 20-11 overall. The Railsplitters also attempted nine corners to Mars Hill's five. Both teams landed four shots on goal.
Andres Pratto led all players with six shot attempts and placed two on goal. He had a golden scoring chance in the 66
th minute that Ben Lucas placed just enough of a hand on for the strike to bounce over the crossbar.
Lucas made four saves and posted his fourth shutout of the season. Bergamo picked up his first loss of the season.
Sanner and Sam Roe accounted for all of Mars Hill's shots on goal with two apiece. Pratto was the only Railsplitter with two, while
Danilo da Silva and
Felipe de Sousa tallied one apiece.
Diego Zannoni had LMU's other best scoring chance. His 13
th-minute shot attempt bounced off the post.
