Railsplitters storm through Tornado, 3-0

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Danilo da Silva scored in the eighth minute, and Felipe de Sousa and Victor Peres added second-half goals as Lincoln Memorial (2-0) shut out King (1-1) 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Union College's Williamson Stadium. With the win, the Railsplitters open a season 2-0 for the third time in four years.

Just like in Thursday's season opener, Lincoln Memorial dominated possession for much of the match, which led to an 18-10 shot advantage. Of those 18 shots, 14 landed on goal. The Railsplitters also attempted five corners to King's one.

Caleb Cothrin saved all four Tornado shot attempts that came his way. The junior became the second goalkeeper in as many games to win his LMU debut.

King goalkeeper Jake Davis made a career-high 11 saves in a losing effort.

Both da Silva and de Sousa scored for the second consecutive game. Da Silva also assisted on de Sousa's goal and attempted a game-high six shots. Five of those found their way on goal, which tied a career high for the senior forward. Peres and de Sousa attempted three shots apiece. All six shots landed on goal.

Da Silva's early goal stood as the game's only score through halftime and well into the second half. He could have added another score on a 68th-minute penalty kick, but the attempt was saved by Davis.

The Railsplitters kept up the offensive pressure but couldn't solve Davis again until the 78th minute. De Sousa converted on a breakaway on a long pass by da Silva.

Peres added to the lead in the 90th minute. Miguel Reis found him on a cross across the box, and the junior converted.
