WINGATE, N.C. – No. 15 Lincoln Memorial (5-1-2, 1-1-2 SAC) suffered its first defeat of the season Saturday evening at Wingate as Elliot Cutts scored 19 seconds into the second overtime to give the Bulldogs (7-3, 5-0 SAC) a 1-0 win.
A turnover deep in the Railsplitter zone gave Cutts possession, and the freshman blasted a shot past
Caleb Cothrin. The game winner was his SAC-leading eighth goal of the season.
The Railsplitter offense was stymied all evening and only mustered one shot on goal—an 84
th-minute attempt by
Andres Pratto. Wingate put up 13 shots and held Lincoln Memorial to a season-low nine. The Railsplitters are yet to score through their two conference road matches, though both extended to double overtime.
Cutts was the only player to record multiple shots on goal. Felipe Checco led all players with five shots, though none landed on goal. Pratto led the Railsplitters with three shots.
Lincoln Memorial went to double overtime for the third time in four conference matches. The Railsplitters have had four of their eight matches require overtime after playing just four regular-season overtime matches in the team's previous two years combined. The team is 1-1-2 on the year in overtime matches with the lone win coming in a nonconference match with Young Harris.
Cothrin added three more saves to his SAC-leading total. His counterpart, Pablo Jara, saved the only shot he saw.
