WINGATE, NC – Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer concluded their season after a loss in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament quarterfinal at no. #15 Wingate University on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
LMU came off of a 5-0 victory this past Wednesday at the LMU Soccer Complex after hosting Mars Hill University in their final regular-season game.
No. 15 Wingate finished their season with a five-game undefeated streak to head into the conference tournament.
The Bulldogs got off to a quick start on the scoreboard after scoring three goals in the first nine minutes of action, resulting in a 3-0 lead going into the break against the Railsplitters.
The hosting Bulldogs extended the deficit with three-second half goals to end the game at 6-0 to advance semifinal of the tournament.
TEAM STATS:
The Railsplitters trailed the Bulldogs in shots (6-22), shots on goal (3-12) and corner kicks (3-4).
THE KEEPERS:
WU – Jens Bergendoff notched the shutout with three saves on the afternoon
LMU –
Robin Hermann contributed with six saves for the seventh time this season.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
After today's postseason loss against the Bulldogs, the Railsplitters will finish their season with a 6-8-3 record throughout the 2019 campaign.
LMU now has a 3-11-2 all-time head-to-head record against Wingate University dating back to October of 2007.
