HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The LMU men's tennis team bounced back from yesterday's 5-2 loss to the University of the Cumberlands with a resounding 6-1 win today over Union College at the LMU Tennis Complex.
The Railsplitters took two of three doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead. UC's Mark Khuenel and Santiago Diaz defeated
Sebastian Colla and
Fabian Sjokvist 6-1 at no. 1,
David Segarra and
Jake Tuchmann also won 6-1 at no. 2 over Lois Castellon and Alex Kostka while at no. 3
Iker Moure and
Moritz Hoerner took the 6-4 win over Simon Campos and Mateo Gonzalez.
LMU then picked up five of the six singles matches to claim the 6-1 victory.
Iker Moure picked up the first win when he defeated Castellon 6-3, 6-3 at no. 2. Hoerner then followed soon afterward with his 7-6, 6-2 win over Srdan Pejic at no. 3. Segarra then picked up his 53rd career win when he won over Campos at no. 1 7-5, 6-3.
The Bulldogs then picked up their first and only point when Kostka bested Sjokvist in three sets 1-6, 6-1, 1-6 at no. 5.
LMU then claimed the match with their fifth point when Colla defeated Khuenel 6-3, 7-5 at no. 4, while Tuchmann won at no. 6 in a tiebreaker set 4-6, 7-5, 14-12.
With the win, LMU improves to 2-1 on the season and 4-1 vs. Union in the
Benny Collins era. They play at Bellarmine next Saturday.
