HARROGATE, Tenn. – The men's tennis team closed out the regular season with the 5-2 Senior Day loss to Newberry Saturday afternoon in the LMU Indoor Tennis Complex.
With the loss, the Railsplitters fall to 8-10 overall and 2-8 in the South Atlantic Conference on the season. Due to a tiebreaker scenario, they will most likely miss out on a berth in next week's SAC Tournament.
LMU picked up a win in doubles at the third flight, where
Jake Tuchmann and senior
Moritz Hoerner defeated Alex Amble and Lawrence Friedland 6-4. The Wolves then claimed wins in the first and second flights to take the doubles point.
In singles, The Wolves won the fourth, second, third and first flights to claim the match win.
In the third flight Hoerner fell to Sean Nguyen in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, while at the first flight fellow senior
David Segarra also fell in three sets as Edison Ambarzumjan outlasted him 7-6, 4-6, 6-0.
LMU's two wins came in the fifth and sixth flights. In the fifth spot
Fabian Sjokvist defeated Amble 7-5, 4-6; while in the sixth flight Tuchmann won over Friedland 6-3, 6-2.
