HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Lincoln Memorial men's teninis team dropped their second match in two days, falling at home to West Virginia Wesleyan College by the score of 5-2 at the LMU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Railsplitters lost the doubles point by the narrowest of margins, as the #1 team of
Jake Tuchmann and
Iker Moure held match point in a deciding tie-breaker before WVWC rallied to claim the win and grab the early 1-0 match advantage. It was third time this season that LMU lost the doubles point after failing to clinch matches in a tie-break situation.
The visiting Bobcats, ranked #50 in the final 2019 ITA poll, then swept the first three singles matches to claim the win. LMU bounced back to get points at #4 and #6 singles behind Xavi Marti and
Jake Tuchmann, while 'Splitter freshman
Nic Goslar fell in a tight 3-set decision at #5.
"We are making some progress each time we get out there (on the courts)," said head coach Mark Walters, who watched his team fall to 1-3 on the season. "The guys are getting to the doorstep for wins, but without a better plan on big points we stall out in clutch moments. But we'll get there as long as we keep our heads and learn to go through our checklists for those situations."
LMU will host Lindsey Wilson Saturday at 2 p.m.
