Marti, Colla Claim Singles wins at Young Harris Sunday Afternoon

Senior Xavier Marti and sophomore Sebastian Colla earns singles wins in 5-2 loss, Railsplitters take No. 1 doubles

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – In its first road test of 2020, the Lincoln Memorial University men's tennis team got singles wins from senior Xavier Marti and sophomore Sebastian Colla but dropped a 5-2 decision at Young Harris College Sunday afternoon at the Bob and Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex in Georgia.

Dropping their fifth-straight, the Railsplitters fall to 1-6 on the season as the host Mountain Lions improve to 5-1.

Despite a 6-2 win at the top doubles spot by senior Jake Tuchmann and junior Iker Moure, LMU was unable to capture the doubles point as Young Harris won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, 6-2 and 6-3, respectively. The Mountain Lions then took the top and bottom of the singles lineup with the Railsplitters getting wins from senior Xavier Marti and sophomore Sebastian Colla in the middle of the lineup.

Marti knocked off Young Harris' Andres Padilla at No. 3 singles in convincing fashion, 6-0, 6-1, while Colla upended Herman Ronnberg, 6-4, 6-3, at the fourth spot.

Moure nearly took the opening set off the Mountain Lions' Kash Reddiyar at No. 1 singles but faltered 7-5, 6-3. Freshman Nathan Cooper recovered from a 6-2 opening set loss and was the last man standing at No. 6 singles before falling in a second-set tiebreak.

Sophomore Fabian Sjokvist and Freshman Nic Goslar were both defeated in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
