BRISTOL, Tenn. – Bringing an end to a seven-match skid, the Lincoln Memorial University men's tennis team earned its second match win of 2020 Wednesday afternoon in Bristol, Tennessee, with a 6-1 non-conference victory over King University.
Taking the doubles point with match wins at the top two spots, the Railsplitters got three singles triumphs against a short-handed Tornado squad. With the win, LMU improves to 2-8 on the season while King drops to 3-6.
"It was nice to see the guys halt their streak and turn in a win," said head coach
Marc Walters. "With so many 4-3 matches going against us, we needed some reassurance that we are making strides. This definitely helps us going into Saturday."
Sophomore
Sebastian Colla teamed up with fellow sophomore
Fabian Sjokvist for a 6-3 doubles win at the top spot and junior
Iker Moure and senior
Jake Tuchmann secured the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at the second position. The Tornado had to give up No. 3 doubles due to a shortage of available players.
In singles play, senior
Xavier Marti had no trouble at the No. 2 spot, picking up a 6-1, 6-1 win as Colla and Tuchmann cruised to 8-1 and 8-0 triumphs, respectively, at No. 3 and No. 4.
King's lone point came at the top singles position where Alex Sodre defeated Moure, 6-4, 6-3. The No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches were won by default due to the Tornado's lack of players.
