Men's Soccer Scores Three, Falls in Final Non-Conference Matchup

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team equaled their season-high goal output Wednesday afternoon against the University of Alabama-Huntsville, but dropped their final non-conference matchup on the road, 5-3.

The Railsplitters opened up Wednesday's final non-conference matchup down three-nil at halftime, but fought until the end against UAH, out-scoring their opponents in the final 45 minutes of action.

After an inspiring halftime team talk down by three, the Railsplitters rallied and got one back just 10 minutes into the second period of play. LMU were given a dangerous free kick just on the edge of the box, where Diego Alvarado made Alabama-Huntsville pay. The junior midfielder banged in a brilliantly-struck left-footed free kick into the far-left corner.

The Chargers bagged a fourth, but not before the referee pointed to the spot for the Railsplitters in the 70th minute of play. Freshman forward Arkin Ulusoy stepped to the spot, and calmy converted for LMU, again pulling the Railsplitters within two.

The Chargers added their fifth of the day off a penalty kick of their own, but there was still one final finish for the Railsplitters. In the 80th minute, Diego Alvarado again hit a well-struck free kick towards the Chargers net that hit off the post, but junior midfielder Kriton Kiousis was well-positioned to tap-in LMU's third finish of the day.

Wednesday's contested finished 5-3 in favor of the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville; however, the Railsplitters can take many positives forward, equaling a season-high of three goals that was previous set against West Alabama (Sept. 5).

LMU faces three final South Atlantic Conference fixtures, first traveling to North Carolina this weekend to take on Catawba, before back-to-back matches against ranked opposition in No. 20 Anderson and No. 11 Limestone.

Up Next
