"There was just a little too much Wingate all-around today," head coach
Marc Walters noted. "There were some bright spots in doubles as
Jake Tuchmann and
Thom Hermans won against a couple experienced seniors. That's an excellent result from them, and hopefully our team can build on that."
In doubles, Tuchmann and Hermans won the aforemtioned match by a score of 7-6 in a tight contest. However,
Thomas Turner and
Sebastian Colla fell 6-3 at number one and
Iker Moure and
Oscar Bailey were defeated 6-1 at number three, giving the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead.
Wingate then swept the singles matches, with only Colla getting his to a third set in a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 defeat.
"In singles we have excellent pieces, but we have to develop continuity going forward," Walters continued. "Normally we are farther along in the season by now, but we will get better as we get more reps."
