LMU falls to Lenoir-Rhyne in pair of conference matches

HICKORY, N.C. - The Lincoln Memorial University men's and women's tennis teams fell to Lenoir-Rhyne by identical 7-0 scores Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the men drop to 1-7 (0-4 South Atlantic Conference) and the women fall to 2-5 (1-3 SAC).

On the women's side, Kristin Vogel and Samantha Hogan provided the lone win of the day at number two double with their 6-3 victory on a day that saw LMU rest four regular starters on the men's side and three on the women's side.

"The decision to rest some players was not an easy one, but I'm confident it will help us going forward," head coach Marc Walters stated. "I know our team will be in better shape for the upcoming stretch of important SAC matches."

Walters on his men and their performance: "Overall, the scores show that we had trouble getting into our matches from a tactical standpoint, and Lenoir-Rhyne did an excellent job of dictating the tempo. We played a lot of young guys today, and today is something they will improve upon. Luca Pavan was a bright spot as he neutralized his opponent and showed that he can grind out a match, which he isn't used to. His focus and fight were impressive."

Walters on his women's team: "We played really well at most spots, and we had a chance to win the doubles point before losing a tight match at number three. I wanted us to keep matches close, and we've gotten good results across the board. I think that bodes well for Friday when we have Mars Hill come to town."

The teams will take on Mars Hill at home this Friday, Mar. 12 at the LMU Tennis Complex. The matches are slated to begin at 2 p.m.
