Railsplitters Fall To Carson-Newman

Second-half concession leads to 1-0 loss

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - In a tightly contested match held at Science Hill High School Thursday evening, the Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team fell to Carson-Newman 1-0. With the loss, the Railsplitters fall to 1-2 in South Atlantic Conference play this spring.

The first half saw a defensive struggle throughout as the teams combined for just eight shots and each goalkeeper made one save. Although the Eagles dominated possession, the Railsplitters were able to keep pace and post a clean sheet.

Coming out of the locker room, Carson-Newman was aggressive and continued to push offensively. Drawing eight corner kicks in the second half alone, the Eagles capitalized on an opportunity in the 67th minutes as Nic Carsh scored from just outside the box, curling it just inside the left post for good measure.

LMU continued to fight hard but was unable to get into scoring position, and the Eagles held possession for the final minute of their victory.

Robin Hermann had another solid performance in between the pipes as he played all 90 minutes and made three saves.

The Railsplitters will look to bounce back next week at home against Mars Hill. The match is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
