JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Facing top-seeded Carson-Newman in the quarterfinals of the 2021 SAC Spring Men's Soccer Tournament, the Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team was unable to keep up offensively and fell 4-0 on the road Monday evening. The team ends the season with a 2-5 record.
Josue Camacho recorded the first shot on goal of the game for the Railsplitters in the sixth minute of play, but it was saved by the Carson-Newman goalkeeper. After several minutes of physical play, Carson-Newman broke through with their first goal in the 28th minute. Shortly thereafter,
Hunter Stroble got a shot off, but it was wide of the mark. The Eagles kept their momentum throughout the rest of the half and went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead.
Less than two minutes after the half, Carson-Newman doubled their lead with another strike. The Eagles continued to put pressure on the goal and notched their third in the last half hour of action. Although LMU tried to keep up, they were unable to break through offensively, and Carson-Newman added a fourth goal with less than two minutes to play to provide the final margin.
The Eagles advance to the South Atlantic Conference semifinals with the victory, while the Railsplitters now look forward to their fall season.
