LMU Ties Tusculum in SAC Opener

Railsplitters produce second straight clean sheet

HARROGATE, TENN. – In a game that involved multiple yellow cards on each side, and two lightning delays, the Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team fought to a 0-0 finish in their South Atlantic Conference opener against Tusculum.

For the second straight game, the Railsplitter defense held an opponent scoreless for 110 minutes to record a clean sheet. Goalkeeper Robin Hermann again put together a spectacular performance as he recorded six saves, and led the defense that held off a Pioneer offense that attempted 20 total shots.

"Two consecutive clean sheets is a massive positive; and staying unbeaten at home is always going to be the standard for us," remarked head coach Robert Spain. "Our guys dealt with the two lightning delays very well, and I thought we were able to discard any excuses regarding those weather delays."

The first delay happened just before halftime, forcing both teams to leave the field for 30 minutes before returning to play. However, play would again be delayed as more lightning was in the area, and the two teams again had to leave the field for 30 minutes.

The weather did not stop the LMU offense from attacking. Three Railsplitters attempted multiple shots, with Hunter Stroble and Arkin Ulusoy leading the offense with three shots each.

Hermann blocked multiple Pioneer shots within the first two minutes of the second overtime period to save the game for LMU. The Railsplitter offense tried to make the defensive effort worth it, but were unable to find the back of the net, as they had multiple attacks turned away within the final five minutes of the match.

"One of the best things about college soccer is the quick turnaround to play in a few days, and I know our guys will be ready to play another top ten team this weekend," mentioned Spain.
