Box Score 2 MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lincoln Memorial University tennis programs bested Mars Hill by identical 5-2 scores on Saturday afternoon.
Both Railsplitter squads captured the doubles point, and then took four of the six singles matches en route to victory.
Thom Hermans continued his solid play at #1 singles, earning his third conference win of the year in the top spot. Hermans also teamed with
Nic Goslar to win at #3 doubles to join
Luca Pavan as 'Splitters with two wins on the day. The #47 ranked men now stand at 3-1 in the conference, and 9-6 overall.
On the women's side,
Julia Valls and
Valentina Ascarrunz paired up a for the clinching doubles point in the top doubles match, and then each won their singles in straight sets. Sophia Array joined them by winning both her matches as well. The #26 ranked women improve to 3-1 in SAC play, and 13-3 overall.
"Mars Hill came out fired up and ready to play, and we had to dodge a few bullets to get those doubles points," said head coach Mark Walters. "Our freshmen did well to adjust to being on the road for the first time this year, and this was a test for them."
Both teams return to the court on Tuesday for a road match at SAC rival Carson Newman. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Jefferson City.
