HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's tennis team swept a double header on Sunday, winning matches against SAC foe UVA Wise by a 6-1 score, and 7-0 over Midway (KY) University.
It was Senior Day for the Lady Railsplitters, and the team sent the four graduating players—
Julia Valls,
Amanda Dahlstrom,
Claudia Rodriguez, and
Samantha Hogan—out with a bang, dropping only two of the 18 matches on the day.
The #28 ranked Lady Railsplitters improve to 16-4 overall, and 5-2 in SAC play.
Against UVA-Wise, Valls and Dahlstrom captured singles wins along with
Valentina Ascarrunz,
Sophia Aray, and
Kushi Khandoji.
In the nightcap, the Splitters played all four seniors in the top spots in both singles and doubles, and didn't drop a set on the way to the sweep.
Haley White and
Paula Sanleon filled out the 5 and 6 spots with wins, while White teamed with
Keana Moon for the #3 doubles win.
"This was a nice day to say 'thank you' to a strong senior class that has given a lot to the program," said head coach Mark Walters. "Everyone on the roster got a chance to contribute, and the girls had some fun out there supporting each other."
LMU is off until next weekend when they travel to Charlotte for conference matches against conference leaders Queens on Saturday and Wingate on Sunday.
