Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial field hockey team played host to the Lander Bearcats Tuesday afternoon at the Lacrosse Complex in Harrogate. It was the second time this season the teams met. The two played on September 28th in a rescheduled game that was postponed due to inclement weather. The Bearcats took a 5-0 decision at home. The outcome was very similar on Tuesday as Lander downed the Railsplitters 4-0.
It was a quick start for Lander as Charlotte Van Galen scored in the third minute of the game on the assist by Victoria Hulst. Five minutes later, Philippine Drost connected on an unassisted goal to take a 2-0 lead early in the game. Lauren Punt added the Bearcats' third goal in the 29th minute with an assist from Drost. The final goal of the game came in the 39th minute on an unassisted goal by Sara Van Hoijtema, drawing the game to its final score: 4-0.Â
The Railsplitters struggled to get anything going offensively, with only two shots throughout the game. However, goalkeeper
Ana Carney played another outstanding game. Although she allowed four goals, she managed 19 saves on 27 total shots, 23 of which were on goal.Â
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moved to 0-14 on the season with an 0-10 mark in conference play. The Railsplitters will be back in action October 14th on the road at Newberry. The game is set to begin at 11:00 AM in Newberry, SC.
