2023 Lincoln Memorial Athletic Hall of Fame inductees

Harrogate, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial Hall of Fame class of 2023 will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday morning in Tex Turner Arena. Inducted were: Abigail Cash, women's volleyball c/o 2016 and 2018, Braden Galyon, men's golf c/o 2015, Christopher G. Morrell, men's cross country c/o 1984, Jalen Steele, men's basketball c/o 2016, and Elena Vasilyeva, women's tennis c/o 2016.

Abigail Cash, originally from New Carlisle, Ohio, now living in LaFollette, Tennessee, was a standout on the volleyball team from 2013-2016. She comes from a volleyball family and played at LMU with her sister for a portion of her career.
Following her inaugural season, Cash earned a spot on the 2013 South Atlantic Conference (SAC) All-Freshman Team. She was also named SAC Specialist of the Week that season after combining for 96 assists in wins over Queens and Catawba. Throughout the rest of her career, Cash would continue her greatness as a setter on the Railsplitter volleyball team. Other honors Cash received include SAC Honorable Mention and SAC Championship All-Tournament Team in 2015, and All-SAC First Team and All-Region Second Team in 2016. She was also named to the AVCA Regional All American First Team in 2016. In 2016, Cash became the second player in school history to reach the 4,000-career assist mark and was a contender for SAC Player of the Year, finishing third in the standings. Cash ranks in the top 10 in the following LMU career volleyball statistics: second in assists, service attempts and sets played; third in assists per set; fourth in service percentage; seventh in digs; and eighth in attach percentage. Cash also played the number one position in beach volleyball in 2016. A veterinary technology major, Cash is the owner of Cash's Paws and Claws Pet Sitting and works as a veterinary technician at Bell County Animal Clinic. She enjoys hiking, being on the lake and being with family.

Braden Galyon, Heiskell, Tennessee, helped his Railsplitter golf team achieve greatness throughout his playing career. He was a member of the 2013 South Atlantic Conference Championship Team, the second LMU team to claim the honor.Galyon's capstone season was as a senior in 2015. He completed his career as the LMU program's all-time leader in competitive rounds played with 92. A Ping/NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region team selection as well as a GCAA All-American Scholar, Galyon earned an at large selection to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional where he wrapped up his career at Lake  Jovita Golf and Country Club with an 82nd-place finish. In 2015, Galyon became the fourth South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Player of the Year in program history. He had wins at the State Farm Intercollegiate and the Tennessee River Rumble and at one point during his senior season, Galyon had five consecutive top-five finishes. Galyon earned All-SAC Second Team honors in 2013. He posted a 75.42 average with a 580-304 win-loss record in 11 events and broke into the top 10 in three tournaments. The All-SAC First Team member in 2014 recorded a 73.64 stroke average and a 643-133 win-loss record in 22 rounds finishing in the top 15 in seven of his 10 events. Today, Galyon is a manufacturing sales rep for Clayton Homes. He and wife Katherine have two children, Payne and Aubrie. He enjoys family time and golf.

Christohpher G. Morrell, of Auburn, Alabama, was a student-athlete at LMU from 1981-1984. He came as the cross country program was first being introduced to campus, and quickly made an impact. LMU competed in the Volunteer State Athletic Conference (VSAC) of the National Association of Intercollegiate Association for many years. Morrell was a two-time All-Conference and a two-time All District performer in those leagues. The runner and co captain of the team was also a two-time Individual National Championship Qualifier. The 1982 team was a particularly strong one. The team finished third overall in the NAIA District 24 Championship and Morrell placed fourth as an individual. The team also won the VSAC. During the Southeastern College Championship held later that year, the Railsplitters placed fourth. Their overall record that year was 16-5. In addition to his athletic prowess, Morrell was also a gifted student. He was valedictorian of the 1984 class, was in the top three percent in the nation of ROTC graduates and was a presidential appointment as a commissioned officer in the US Army Corps of Engineers. Morrell was also the recipient of the Lincoln Citizenship Award and the Outstanding Visual Arts Student Award. Morrell has three children, Amy, Jane and Matt Morrell. He is currently president/owner of M2 Design and Consulting. In his spare time, Morrell enjoys photography, hiking and running.

Jalen Steele, Knoxville, Tennessee, only competed one season as a Railsplitter, but he made the most of that season, contributing to a team record of 34-3 overall record, 22-0 in conference play, and a trip to the NCAA Div. II Championship in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.Steele, a prep standout at Fulton High School in Knoxville, played three years at Mississippi State before an injury sidelined him for the 2013-14 season. He would eventually enroll at LMU and play for the Railsplitters in what turned out to be an exciting year. For his efforts during the 2015-16 season, Steele made the All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Second Team, appeared on the Bevo Francia Watch List and led the nation in three-point field goals made by a player in any division. He currently ranks third in three-point field goal percentage, in field goals made and in field goals attempted. For a single season, Steele is tied for first in games played in a season and tied for second in games started. He is tied for seventh in minutes played in a season. Steele, a business management major at LMU, works in receiving/management at OP Jenkins Furniture. He played basketball overseas in Latvia for one year. He has two children, Amari and Kai. Steele's hobbies include training his son, playing video games and pool and of course, basketball.

Elena Vasilyeva, came to LMU from Russia and is currently living in England where she is a senior client account manager for ICS-digital.The three years Vasilyeva  spent at LMU were productive. She had 41 career singles wins (top 15 in LMU history), with a 67.2 winning percentage (Top 15 winning percentage in LMU history); 40 career doubles wins (top15 in LMU history), and a winning percentage of 63.5 (top 20 in LMU history).Vasliyeva's honors included First Team All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Singles in 2014, 2015 and 2016. She was named to the First Team All-SAC Doubles in 2014 and earned one SAC Player of the Week nod in 2014. Vasilyeva helped lead her team to their first SAC Tournament appearance in three seasons when they made the tournament in 2016, her senior season. She was ranked as high as 11th in the region in 2016 and was the number one singles player for LMU throughout her career. Vasilyeva's favorite hobby is yoga. She is married to LMU alum George Burne, '17.
