Miami Shores, FL - The Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team saw its season come to an end on Saturday night in the NCAA Super Regional against Barry University in Miami Shores.
After a tremendous regular season in which the Railsplitters finished 11-4-3, Lincoln Memorial saw its season come to a close after a 5-1 loss to Barry University in the NCAA Super Regional in Miami Shores. The hosting Bucs came out hot, scoring four goals in the first 20 minutes of the match. The Railsplitters hadn't allowed more than three goals in any game this season. It was the first time since October of 2019 against Catawba that Lincoln Memorial allowed four goals or more in a half of play.
Barry struck first in the 10th minute as Iker Berruezo found the back of the net with an assist from Oier Calvillo, giving the Bucs an early 1-0 lead. Berruezo extended the Bucs' lead to 2-0 in the 15th minute on a header with an assist from Lucas Silva. Following a penalty in the box, Barry made the most of a penalty kick, as David Polanco connected on a penalty goal in the 19th minute to give the Bucs a quick 3-0 lead. With a goal from Peekay Stoffle in the 25th minute and an assist from Scott Neil, Barry took a commanding 4-0 lead in the first half.
As play resumed in the second half, the Bucs continued to find success on offense. In the 72nd minute, Stoffle again found the net with assists from Nicolas Villalobos and Juan Simoniello, giving Barry a commanding 5-0 lead. Refusing to go down without a fight, Lincoln Memorial tallied its first goal in the 74th minute as South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year
Daniel Burko connected on his sixth penalty goal of the season, completing a perfect 6-of-6 on penalty kicks for the season.
The goal from Burko would be the only offense the Railsplitters were able to muster as they fell 5-1 to Barry, seeing the season come to a close. With the loss, Lincoln Memorial wraps up the season with an 11-5-3 record. The Railsplitters were ranked as high as 18th nationally this season, and saw individual players receive a multitude of accolades.
