Field hockey falls to Wingate on the road

Wingate, NC - The Lincoln Memorial field hockey team was back on the road Saturday morning, traveling to Wingate for a conference match up with the Bulldogs. Wingate entered the game leading the conference with a 6-1 mark in SAC play and an 8-1 mark overall. Lincoln Memorial entered the game with an 0-5 record in conference play and an 0-5 mark overall.

The Railsplitters' offense struggled against the Bulldogs, failing to score a goal throughout the game. Wingate found its way onto the board early in the game as Lauren Montgomery tallied the game's first goal in the first five minutes, giving the Bulldogs a quick 1-0 lead. Both defenses held strong in the second quarter, holding each other off the board, seeing the Bulldogs take a 1-0 lead into the half. Wingate struck first in the second half, taking a 2-0 lead as Grace Gerner netted her first goal of the game on an assist by Montgomery. Wingate added two goals in the final frame to secure a 4-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial.

With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to 7-1 in conference play and 9-1 overall. Lincoln Memorial moved to 0-6 overall and in conference play. The Railsplitters will be back at home on Monday to take on Belmont Abbey in a make up conference game from earlier this season. Belmont Abbey is currently at the bottom of the SAC with an 0-7 record.
