Game Recap: Field Hockey | | John Dunn

Field hockey sets bevy of program firsts with first conference win

Harrogate, TN - Three days after winning its first home game in program history against the Maryville Saints, the Lincoln Memorial field hockey team continued to hang-ten on the wave of momentum at home against Converse on Wednesday, tallying its first conference win in program history. Lincoln Memorial set a bevy of program firsts including: first conference win, first conference victory at home, first back-to-back wins, first back-to-back shutouts, and more.

Taking a page from their playbook against Maryville, the Railsplitters continued to be persistent and relentless on defense, limiting Converse to zero goals throughout the game. The Valkyries had plenty of opportunities, with nine penalty corners and 17 shots, including 13 shots on goal. However, Lincoln Memorial's defense, headlined by SAC record holder Ana Carney, was impenetrable. Carney faced 11 shots, saving all of them. Teammates Guadalupe Montaldo and Olivia Rosini also managed a defensive save each. Both defenses played very well. However, Lincoln Memorial's persistence paid off when Katherine Brislin netted the game's only goal on a shot out of a penalty corner, assisted by Rosini, seeing the Railsplitters tally their first conference win in program history.

Lincoln Memorial looks to continue its momentum this Saturday on Senior Day, playing host to the Wingate Bulldogs.
