Game Recap: Field Hockey | | John Dunn

Field hockey drops tightly contested game against #7 Mount Olive at home

Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial field hockey team played its home opener on Wednesday morning, hosting 7th-ranked Mount Olive. The Trojans took each of the three previous series meetings by a combined score of 30-0. However, this was not the case for Wednesday's game. The Railsplitters played an incredible game defensively, with goalkeeper Ana Carney tallying six saves. Mount Olive was held off the board until the final frame, scoring the game's only goal with just over 10 minutes remaining when Jemimah Kriechelberg found the cage on the assist from Annefleur Moerkerken, giving the Trojans a 1-0 lead, which would prove to be the game's final. It was the most competitive game between Mount Olive and Lincoln Memorial to date, separated by a single goal.

The game will prove beneficial to the Railsplitters. Lincoln Memorial will have a 10-day break before taking on the Trojans again, but this time on their home turf. Mount Olive will play Coker and Wingate in the interim, allowing Lincoln Memorial to be refreshed and ready for a familiar opponent, seeking its first conference program win on the road on September 21 at Mount Olive.
