Morrow, GA – The Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team fell to the Clayton State Lakers Wednesday afternoon 0-2.
The first 12 minutes of the match were quiet, as the first opportunity to score from either team came in the 13
th minute. LMU's
Thomas Sloerdal and
Dani Cruz each took a shot, but both were saved by the Laker goalkeeper.
Three minutes later,
Daniel Benedek Miklosi earned his first save by a Clayton State shot.
Possession went back-and-forth until the 27
th minute, where
Botond Skulka fired off a shot, which was blocked, followed by
Hays Adams who took a shot in the 39
th minute, which was saved.
The Lakers took the last shot in the half in the 43
rd minute, which was saved. The score going into halftime was 0-0.
Both teams started the scoring attempts early in the second half, as LMU's
Christopher Ramos took the first shot in the 49
th minute followed by a Clayton State shot, and each team's goalkeeper earned themselves a save.
The Lakers then started pushing on the offensive end as they took two shots in the 56
th and 59
th minutes, giving Benedek Miklosi two saves.
Clayton State took the lead in the 59
th minute as Overmars scored off of the Wagner assist.
Another Laker fired a shot in the 61
st minute, followed by Lincoln Memorial taking a shot by Cruz, blocked.
The Lakers extended their lead in the 65
th minute as Saevik scored.
The LMU defense kept on getting pushed as Clayton State took shots in the 69
th, 70
th and 71
st , and 74
th minutes, all saved by Benedek Miklosi.
The Railsplitters'
Gian-Carlo Kama fired a shot that was blocked in the 75
th minute, and the Lakers after in the 77
th minute, which was saved.
Benedek Miklosi tallied another save in the 88
th minute by a Clayton State shot. With that being the last scoring attempt from either team, the Railsplitters fall to the Lakers 0-2.
Kama led the team in shots with two, and Adams, Ramos, Sloerdal, and Cruz each recorded team-high one shot on goal. Benedek Miklosi registered a career-high 11 saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial had nine shots, with four being on goal, three corner kicks, and 12 saves.
With the loss, the Railsplitters fall to 3-7-1 overall and the Lakers move to 5-5-3 overall.
Their next match will be on Saturday, October 18
th as they host Mars Hill at 7 pm, which is also senior day.
