Field hockey drops road contest at 3rd-ranked Newberry

Newberry, SC - One day after defeating the Coker Cobras, claiming program records for most wins in a season and most goals in a season, the Lincoln Memorial field hockey team faced a quick turnaround, traveling to Newberry, SC for a match up with the 3rd-ranked and undefeated Newberry Wolves. Lincoln Memorial entered the game with a 4-6 overall record and a 1-3 mark in conference play. Newberry took to its home field with an 8-0 record, including a 4-0 mark in conference play.

The Railsplitters were on the road for back-to-back games, leading the Wolves to remain on the offensive throughout the game in an attempt to fatigue Lincoln Memorial. Newberry came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, scoring a trio of goals in the opening period to take a 3-0 advantage. Adding another goal in the second quarter, the Wolves increased the lead to 4-0 which stood at the half. Newberry failed to relent out of the halftime break, adding a quartet of goals, further extending the lead to 8-0 as the game spilled into the final frame. The Wolves added another goal in the final frame, however, Lincoln Memorial showed that no matter the score, it would not relent, adding a goal when Jimena Loustalot found the back of the cage with just over five minutes remaining. The score would hold through the final horn, seeing Newberry remain undefeated and Lincoln Memorial move to 4-7 on the season.

The Railsplitters will be back at home on Saturday at 12:30 for a match up with Belmont Abbey.
