Men's Soccer Falls to Anderson in NCAA First Round After Penalty Shootout

Boca Raton, FL – Lincoln Memorial men's soccer falls to the #7 seed Anderson Trojans 0-0 (3-2 penalty kicks) Friday afternoon to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Super Region 2.

The Railsplitters started out the match with a strong attack as Gian-Carlo Kama presented a shot on goal in the 1st minute, but was collected by the Trojan goalkeeper, with Anderson responding with a shot on their own in the 3rd minute, giving goalkeeper Daniel Benedek Miklosi his first save of the afternoon.

LMU fired off a pair of shots within the next ten minutes but were either wide or high of the frame.

Possession was fought back-and-forth for the next 20 minutes as both teams battled to get to their attacking ends, and the Railsplitters were able to produce a few off-target shots as Kama took a shot in the 42nd minute but was wide. With that being the last shot attempt of the half, both teams went into halftime with the match scoreless at 0-0.

Ignacio Arguello took the first shot for LMU in the second half in the 50th minute but was off target.

The first on goal attempt from either team came from the Trojans in the 64th minute, which Benedek Miklosi easily saved. Three minutes later, LMU's Ronan O'Mahony Blondel fired off a shot, but was denied by the Anderson goalkeeper. With that being the last on target opportunity from either team, the match goes into the first 10-minute overtime with a 0-0 score.

In the first overtime, each team had a few shot opportunities, but none were on target, which brought the match to the second round of overtime.

The second 10-minute overtime was the same, as neither team recorded a shot on frame, to bring the match to a penalty kick shootout.

Anderson had the first shot in the shootout, but it was tremendously saved by Benedek Mikllosi. O'Mahony Blondel had the first shot for the Railsplitters, which he slots in the top right of the goal to make the score 0-1.

In the second round, the Trojans made their attempt, but Botond Skulka missed his chance wide of the frame to make the score tied 1-1.

The third round Anderson took advantage of as they made their attempt, as Thomas Sloerdal missed his opportunity by a Trojan goalkeeper save to make the score 2-1.

In the fourth round, the Trojans made their shot, as Szymon Sokolnicki also put his attempt in the back of the net to make the score 3-2.

In the fifth, Anderson missed their opportunity above the goal, but Enrique Martin also missed his attempt.

With the final score of the shootouts 3-2, Anderson advances to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
