Harrogate, TN - For the first time ever, Tex Turner Arena played host to a men's wrestling match, as the Lincoln Memorial University men's wrestling team would Coker University, UNC Pembroke, and King University in Mat Madness at Tex Turner Arena. The historic event saw Lincoln Memorial match up against Coker and UNC Pembroke in conference competition.
In the first match, the Railsplitters faced Coker, with the Cobras taking the bout 48-5. Lincoln Memorial's Brady Comerford triumphed over his opponent from Coker in the heavyweight class, jumping out to an early lead thanks to a takedown in the first round. After securing a take down to end the first round, Comerford would notch a quick escape to start round number two, reversing that into a fast take down to end the round. Round three would see Comerford get a take down with over a minute remaining, as Comerford would ride out the 15-0 technical fall win.
Meet two would see the Splitters face off against UNC Pembroke, with the Braves taking down the Railsplitters 52-3. Jose Gutierrez would shine for the Railsplitters, as he competed in and won his first collegiate match. Gutierrez would notch a takedown 15 seconds into the bout and would hold onto control for the rest of the first round. Following a second round without any scoring, Gutierrez would notch a take down in the third round with a minute remaining to secure six individual points and get the win via decision 6-1.
The Railsplitters hit the road for their next match, taking on King University on December 3rd in Bristol, Tennessee in a Conference Carolinas competition.
